Title: Call Unto God
Text: Jer. 33:1-3
[Jer 33:1] Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
[Jer 33:2] “Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD is His name):
[Jer 33:3] ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Introduction
- The Lord told Jeremiah, call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
- The Lord is telling you the same, for you to call unto Him, that He will answer you.
- What the Lord meant there is literally what it means. Call Unto God.
- However, before you can call unto God, you must know His name, His number, and how to make the call.
Main Topic
Who can make the call?
- [2Ch 7:14] if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
- According to 2 Chr. 7:14, only God’s people can make the call.
- God’s people are known by Whom they serve.
- There are conditions that must be met to make the call.
- Humility of heart
- Prayer
- Seeking God’s face (Worship)
- Repentance
- If these conditions are met, the call will go through. However, if these conditions are not met, the call may ring, but there will be no answer.
Why are you calling?
- There are several reasons why you must call.
-
[Joh 16:24] Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full
-
[Mat 7:7] “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
-
[Php 4:6] Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; [Php 4:7] and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- You call so that your joy may be full
- You call so that peace will reign in your heart
- Here are a few of them:
- To praise God and worship Him
- To ask God for forgiveness of sin and repent from our wicked ways
- [1Jn 1:9] If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- To ask God to intervene in a matter
- God will not do a thing on earth until prayers have gone into heaven
- To ask God for blessings: blessings for your home, your church, your family members, your friends, your foes, etc.
- To ask God for direction in a matter
- [Pro 3:6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
When to call?
-
[Psa 63:1] O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
-
[Isa 26:9] With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
- You can call on God at any time, but it is best to give Him the first hours of your day.
- The time you are most alert and productive is the time to call unto God.
What can derail a call?
- The best way to call is to have a two way communication and be able to speak and hear clearly. However, certain things can prevent a call from being pleasant.
- No service or wrong number – if there is no service on your cell phone, you cannot make a call. If there is no service in your spirit phone line, you cannot make the call. If the correct number is not dialed, the call will not go through.
- There are some numbers that people call that are not God’s number: Baal, Diana, some face the Sun, some face the moon, some call on thunder, some call on water, some call on iron. Those are all wrong numbers that will not connect you to God. Those providers have no service.
- There must be service on your line to God, and the only provider of that service is not Sprint, not Verizon, not AT&T, not T-Mobile, but JESUS.
- [Joh 14:6] Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
- Bad Reception – if there is a bad reception where you are, it will be difficult to hear clearly. If you are not where you are supposed to be spiritually, it will be difficult to hear God. Bad reception is caused by being far from the cell tower.
- If you are far from Jesus, it will be very difficult to make a call with good reception.
- If you are close to Jesus, there will be no bad reception.
- Dead battery – if the battery on a phone is dead, the phone is useless.
- If the spiritual battery is dead, it is a dangerous place to be.
- You must quickly re-charge by plugging into the power of the Holy Spirit to recharge your spiritual battery.
- When your spiritual batteries are fully charged, you can easily make the call.
- 1 Kings 18:20-40 – When Elijah was fully charged, he stood on Mount Carmel and declared to the Baal prophets that the LORD is God.
- When Elijah’s battery was drained, he ran from Jezebel and asked God to kill him.
- Don’t let your battery drain, keep it charged by being continually plugged into the power of the Holy Spirit.
