Text: Deut. 7:9, Num. 23:19, 1 Cor. 1:9

[Deu 7:9] Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

[Num 23:19] God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

[1Co 1:9] God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Introduction

God is the faithful God
He keeps covenants and mercy with them that love Him
He keeps covenants and mercy with them that keep His commandments, to a thousand generations
Because God is a faithful God, He will keep His covenants with you, provided that you love Him
Because God is a faithful God, He will keep His covenants with you to a thousand generations, provided that you keep His commandments

What does it mean that God is a faithful God?

1. God is always committed

[Eph 1:3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
[Eph 1:4] According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
[Eph 1:5] Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
[Eph 1:6] To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Before the foundations of the world, God had a plan for us, and He chose us that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.
God has been committed to us even before the generations of our forefathers started.
God showed His commitment over and over in how He dealt with the Israelites
- No matter how far they go away from God, because of covenant with Abraham, He always had an intercessor for them, and will always bring them back to Himself.

2. God is always trustworthy

[Job 13:15] Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
- A person is trustworthy when their word matches their actions.
[Heb 6:18] That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
- It is impossible for God to lie, therefore, He will always say the truth and He will always do what He says He will do

3. God is always reliable and dependable

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego relied and depended on God, and they were delivered.
- [Dan 3:17] If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
- [Dan 3:18] But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
- [Dan 3:25] He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Daniel relied and depended on God, and He was delivered.
- [Dan 6:22] My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
God is a reliable and dependable God

4. God does not change

[Psa 90:2] Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
[Heb 13:8] Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
God is the same from everlasting to everlasting. He does not change. As a result, He will remain
- A committed God
- A trustworthy God
- A reliable and dependable God

Conclusion

What are we to do?

[Deu 7:9] Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
Two things:
- Love God and keep His commandments.
[Jos 22:5] But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
[Joh 14:21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Love God
- Give your life to Jesus completely and be sold out to Him
- Serve Him with everything that is inside of you
Keep His commandments
- Do what His Word says.
As a result:
- God will keep His covenants and mercy with you, and even to your generations to come.
- Your love for God is not just for you, it is for your generations that are yet to be born.
[Psa 20:7] Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
