Title: Giving – Part III
Text: Luke 6:38

[Luk 6:38]  Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Introduction
Last week we discussed the following:
  • God gave us everything, including His only begotten Son
  • As children of God, giving must be a part of us
    • You must give yourself to God
    • Give your resources to God
    • Give your best to God in your time and effort
  • Your giving is an act of worship
  • Abelistic Offering vs. Cainistic Offering
  • When you give, you must know who you are giving to
    • What you give to God shows how big God is to you
  • Tithes
    • All the tithes are holy unto the Lord – Lev. 27:30-32
    • When you bring your tithes, there are promises from God the Father – Mal 3:8-12

Main Topic

Types of Giving
Tithes, Offering, Thanksgiving, First Fruit, Others

Offering
  • [1Ch 16:29]  Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!
  • [Exo 34:20]  But the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb. And if you will not redeem him, then you shall break his neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. “And none shall appear before Me empty-handed.
  • Never come before God without an offering
  • Offering is free-will giving.  You are not forced to give a certain amount.  It is entirely up to you.
  • However, whatever you give must be worthy of the King of kings that you are giving to.
    • Your offering is an avenue for giving the glory due to God
    • Your offering is a form of worship due unto God
    • Remember Cain – He gave an offering not worthy of the Lord
    • He gave an offering with a bad attitude
    • Give with an heart of gratitude
    • [2Co 9:7]  So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
  • In addition, whatsoever you give, you will reap.
    • [Luk 6:38]  Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
    • One cannot plant a seed of corn and expect a mango harvest – [Gal 6:7]  Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
    • What you give matters
    • How you give matters
    • How much you give matters
  •  Never give God what costs you nothing – 2 Sam. 24:18-25
    • [2Sa 24:24]  Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buyit from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
  •  Some givers in the Bible
    • Dorcas – Acts 9:36-43
    • Cornelius – Acts 10:1-8
      • [Act 10:4]  And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.
    • Widow of Zarephath 1 Kings 17:8-24
      • The widow gave to Elijah out of her last meal
      • When her son died, the prophet owed it to her to raise him back to life
    • Shunamite Woman – 2 Kings 4:8-37
      • This woman saw Elisha passing by and constrained him to eat
      • She then built him a small place to stay when he’s passing by
      • Elisha asked her what she needed.  She said she needed nothing
      • Gehazi spilled the beans that she had no child
      • Elisha prophesied and it came to pass.  She gave birth to a boy
      • It happened that the boy grew and one day complained of a headache and died
      • The woman took the child and laid him on Elisha’s bed – signifying, that I lay this child on my offering
      • Elisha came – God cannot be put to shame – and raised the child and gave him back to his mother.
      • Your offering is a form of worship to God.
      • How are you worshiping your God?

Thanksgiving
  • [Lev 22:29]  And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will.
  • [Psa 107:22]  And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
  • [Psa 116:17]  I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
  • [Jon 2:9]  But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
  • 10 Lepers – Luke 17:11-19
    • 10 Lepers were healed
    • 1 came back and give God thanks
      • [Luk 17:15]  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,
      • [Luk 17:16]  and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
      • [Luk 17:17]  So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
      • [Luk 17:18]  Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”
      • [Luk 17:19]  And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
    • 10 were healed, 1 was made whole
  • Thanksgiving is a sacrifice

  • [Rom 11:16]  For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
  • [Pro 3:9]  Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
