Title: Go Through The Process
Text: Jer. 29:11

[Jer 29:11]  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Introduction

  • The God that we serve is a God of process.
  • Everything He does with men is by process
  • His thoughts towards us are of peace and not of evil, to give us an expected end.
  • To get to the expected end, we must go through a process
  • Process is a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.
  • In order for us to get to the expected end, there is a series of actions and steps that must be taken.
  • In this day of microwave everything, people don’t want to go through the process.  We want instant success.

Main Topic

Why Process
  • Going through a process is necessary in order to prepare us for the next phase of life.
  • When a woman goes through the process of bringing a child into this world, it takes 9 months.
  • In that 9 months,
    • The woman will bond with that child,
    • Love that child even before the child is born
    • Go through the painful process of giving birth
    • When the child now comes out, she will hold that child and love that child as herself
    • Why? Because she went through a process.
    • Imagine if the child just drop from heaven on day one.  The immediate affection for the child will not be there
  • God takes us through a process so that we can succeed
  • If we fail to go through the process that God has outlined for us, we are bound to fail in life.
  • May we not fail in Jesus name.

Examples of those that went through a process
  • The children of Israel went through a process in the wilderness, most of them failed, and few of them made the promised land.
  • Moses went through a process.
  • Joshua went through a process
  • David went through a process before meeting Goliath.
    • [1Sa 17:34]  And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
    • [1Sa 17:35]  And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
  • He also went through a process before he was crowned king of Israel
    • He was anointed king of Israel in 1 Sam. 16
    • He did not sit on the throne until 2 Sam. 2
  • Elijah went through a process
    • [1Ki 17:1]  And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
  • Elisha went though a process
    • He served Elijah until Elijah was taken up by a whirlwind.
  • Before Peter’s shadow can heal the sick, he went through a process
    • He went from denying Jesus to receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost after he repented
    • Then he preached and 3000 souls were won
    • Then he met the man by the beautiful gate
    • Then an angel rescued him from prison
    • Then he raised Tabitha to life,
    • Before his shadow can heal the sick.
  • Apostle Paul went through a process
  • Joseph went through a process
  • Jesus went through a process
    • [Luk 2:40]  And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
    • [Luk 2:52]  And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
  • Our Christian walk is a process.  We shall finish well in Jesus name.
  • We cannot and must not avoid the process.

Those that did not go through the process or rejected the process
  • King Saul refused to go through the process – He ended up failing God
  • Judas Iscariot refused to go through a process – He ended up selling out his Master
  • Samson refused to go through the process – His destiny was cut short
  • Gehazi refused to go through the process – He failed and ended up with leprosy

The Process
  • The process is a series of trials, tribulations, challenges, small successes and victories that will prepare us for the future that God has for us.
  • The process strengthens us to be ready for that future
  • The process helps to increase our faith in our walk with God
    • [Rom 1:17]  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
  • It is possible to avoid the process, but without the process, long lasting success will elude us.
  • There is no short cut to success (expected end), unless it is a short lived success
    • When people take the short cut to success, they will end up stealing or cheating their way to success
    • In the end, it will catch up to them and they will have to go back to step 1 or destroy themselves.
    • Don’t be like them.
    • Remember Korah, Dathan, and Abiram?
  • Long term success requires going through the process – learning, making mistakes and recovering from the mistakes
    • God is there with us and He will help us every step along the way.
  • If you have never failed in your life, it means you have never attempted anything worthwhile
  • Failing along the way is not the end, it is part of the process.
  • Peter failed Jesus three times before he learned his lesson.  After that, he did not fail the Master again.
  • If you failed in anything, congratulate yourself.  It means you are going through the process.
    • Determine where you missed it, learn from it, and prepare yourself for the next phase with your new found experience.
    • Next time, you won’t make the same mistake again.

Conclusion
  • Don’t avoid the process.  There is no short cut to success.
  • Allow God to take you through the process.  He is there with you every step of the way.
  • If you fail or fall, get up and go back to God.
  • Your process is different  from the process of others. Don’t compare.
  • Always look for what God is trying to show you where you are.
  • Be patient with yourself. Be patient with God.
  • In the end, you will get to your expected end.
