Title: Living the Kingdom Lifestyle – II
Text: Matt. 6:9-13, 33
[Mat 6:9] After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
[Mat 6:10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
[Mat 6:11] Give us this day our daily bread.
[Mat 6:12] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
[Mat 6:13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
[Mat 6:33] But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Introduction
-
Our Lord’s prayer asked for the kingdom to come. For the will of God to be done here on earth as it is in heaven
-
In a kingdom, there is a King. The King has a domain in which He rules over.
-
Living a Kingdom lifestyle means that Jesus is the King and the domain He rules is all the affairs of your life
-
However, this King is not a dictator. He won’t force you to do anything. You have to willingly surrender all to Him.
-
Living the Kingdom lifestyle is equivalent to running your race according to the plan of God for your life
-
This message will touch on major areas we ought to pay attention to as we continue this journey called life and running the Christian race
-
I pray we learn something from this message and the message be a blessing to us all.
1 Salvation, Sanctification, Baptism of the Holy Spirit (SSB) as the foundations
2 You must grow spiritually
-
You must have an hunger for God to grow
-
Lack of hunger for God leads to lack of growth
-
If you don’t have the hunger for God, pray for the hunger
-
[Psa 42:1] As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
-
[Psa 42:2] My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
-
When one grows spiritually, the chances of backsliding or causing pain in the body of Christ reduces significantly
-
When one remains a baby spiritually, one will eventually backslide or cause pain in the body of Christ
-
The Word of God must have a place in your life
-
John 1:1 – the Word is God
-
[1Pe 2:2] As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
-
The easiest way to know God is to know His Word, know His acts, know His personality, know what He has done in the past, know what He will do in the future.
-
Bereans – Acts 17:10-12
-
[Act 17:10] And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
-
[Act 17:11] These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
-
[Act 17:12] Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
-
They received the word with all readiness of mind
-
Searched the Scriptures daily
-
You must search the Scripture daily to grow
-
Prayer must have a place in your life
-
Prayer can do everything that God can do
-
Prayer moves the hand that moves everything
-
The depth of your prayer life is proportional to the level of the relationship you have with God
-
Deep relationship with God calls for a deep prayer life
-
Shallow relationship with God means shallow prayer life
3 You must display the fruit of the Spirit
-
As you are growing in the Spirit, you will see the fruit of the Spirit manifest
-
Don’t tell me you are a Christian. Show me by your fruit.
-
By their fruits, we shall know them
-
Gal 5:22-23
-
[Gal 5:22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
-
[Gal 5:23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
-
John 15:1-4
-
[Joh 15:1] I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
-
[Joh 15:2] Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
-
[Joh 15:3] Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
-
[Joh 15:4] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
-
Without Christ, there is no fruit
4 Godliness with Contentment
-
[1Ti 6:6] But godliness with contentment is great gain.
-
Godliness is a God-centered life. It grows, not through the pursuit of a process, but through the presence of a person.
-
Jesus Christ is the mystery of godliness (1 Timothy 3:16).
-
[1Ti 3:16] And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
-
His presence in your life is your hope of becoming the person God created you to be.
-
Christ in you [is] the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
-
Contentment is finding joy in what God has given to you.
-
The opposite of contentment is greed which destroys your capacity to enjoy what God has given.
-
Contentment is a Christian grace that grows over time. It does not come quickly, easily or naturally.
-
Paul says “I have learned to be content” (Philippians 4:12).
-
[Php 4:12] I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
-
Paul was saying “ I have learned the secret of being content”. He is saying: “There were times when I had plenty. But then God brought me to situations where I was ‘in need.’ And through that I learned something: I discovered the secret of being content.”
-
It grows, not through the pursuit of a process, but through the presence of a person.
-
It is disheartening to note that in the bible, there are men also who refuse to be satisfied with what God has given them and the stories that readily comes to mind is that of a man called Gehazi in 2 Kings 5 and Judas Iscariot.
-
Being content does not mean one is not ambitious but rather it is the exercise of self-control while pursuing one’s life ambitions.
-
We should thank God for where we are and what we have and let God himself take us to heights he has already prepared for us.
-
Anything short of that positions one to contact the leprosy of Naaman or even sell Jesus out like Judas Iscariot.
Conclusion
-

-
You must grow spiritually

You must display the fruit of the Spirit

Godliness with contentment is a must
