Title: My Turn To Fly
Text: Is. 40:28-31
[Isa 40:28] Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
[Isa 40:29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
[Isa 40:30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
[Isa 40:31] But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Introduction
-
The God that you serve is the everlasting God
-
He is the LORD (Yahweh)
-
He is the Creator of the ends of the earth
-
He neither faint nor does He get tired
-
[Psa 121:3] He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
-
[Psa 121:4] Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
-
Because He is not man – [Joh 4:24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
-
There is no limitation to His abilities
-
Even the youths shall be tired. No matter how strong a human being is, he will get tired at some point.
-
Even trained athletes get tired
-
There is tiredness from physical activity
-
There is also tiredness from within – it is called discouragement
-
When one is discouraged, even physical activity will be difficult to achieve
-
However, Is. 40:31 says, they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength
-
Whether you are tired physically or emotionally, the LORD is more than able to renew your strength.
-
I pray someone’s strength is renewed today in Jesus name.
-
When you wait on the Lord, discouragement is uprooted
-
When you wait on the Lord, you will walk and not faint
-
When you wait on the Lord, you will run and not be weary
-
When you wait on the Lord, you will surely fly
Main Topic
What does it mean to wait on the Lord?
-
For any man that is married, you know what it means to wait on your wife.
-
She wants to put on her make-up, try on 10 dresses, 20 shoes, and if you don’t complement her, she will go back and start all over.
-
Waiting on the Lord is not that kind of waiting.
-
When you wait on the Lord, you “Look For” God – Ps. 42:1, Is. 55:6
-
[Psa 42:1] As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
-
[Isa 55:6] Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
-
Is your heart truly searching for the Lord?
-
That you want to find Him at all cost
-
That is why Jesus told these two parables – Matt. 13:44-46
-
[Mat 13:44] Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
-
[Mat 13:45] Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
-
[Mat 13:46] Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
-
What price have you paid to find the Lord? Can you sell all that you have to find God?
-
When you wait on the Lord, you “Hope in Him” – Ps. 71:5, 130:5-7
-
[Psa 71:5] For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.
-
[Psa 130:5] I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. [Psa 130:6] My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. [Psa 130:7] Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
-
When all your hope is in the Lord, it means your reliance is upon the Lord
-
If you rely on riches, it will fail you
-
If you rely on man, man will fail you
-
If you rely on beauty, it will fade away
-
If you rely on your ability, it will equally fail you
-
When you rely on God, the God who has never failed, He will never fail you
-
When you wait on the Lord, your “Trust is in Him” – Ps. 37:3, Ps. 40:1-3
-
[Psa 37:3] Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
-
[Psa 40:1] I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. [Psa 40:2] He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. [Psa 40:3] And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. [Psa 40:4] Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
-
When your trust is in the Lord
-
There will be no backup plan. Having a backup plan is having another god.
-
You have 100% faith in God
-
Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego – “Our God is able to deliver us, but if He doesn’t, we will not bow to the image of the king”
-
Like Esther going to the king – “if I perish, I perish”
-
When you wait on the Lord, you have an “Expectation” of Him – Ps. 62:5, Prov. 23:18
-
Your children have an expectation of you, they look to you for something. It may be food, shelter, clothing, video games, 60″ television, etc.
-
What do you expect from the Lord?
-
[Psa 62:5] My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
-
[Pro 23:18] For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
-
When you have expectations of the Lord, you will present it to Him in prayer
-
That’s why Jesus said – [Joh 16:24] Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
-
When you wait on the Lord, your expectations shall be met and not cut off
What is the significance of waiting on the Lord?
-
Your strength shall be renewed –
-
[Isa 40:29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
-
[Neh 8:10] Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
-
Every discouragement is uplifted
-
[Isa 61:3] To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
-
You will walk and not faint
-
You will run and not be weary
-
Then you will fly, why?
-
Moses waited
-
Jesus waited
-
The Apostles waited
-
Elijah waited
-
Elisha waited
-
They were all flying in their time.
Conclusion
-
When you wait on the Lord, you “Look For” God at all cost
-
When you wait on the Lord, you “Hope in Him” no matter how long it takes
-
When you wait on the Lord, your “Trust is in Him” despite what your senses are telling you
-
When you wait on the Lord, you have an “Expectation” of Him, which He will give to you
-
Then
-
Your strength shall be renewed
-
Every discouragement is uplifted
-
You will walk and not faint
-
You will run and not be weary
-
Then you will fly
-
So, the condition to fly high is to wait upon the Lord
-
Is it your turn to fly?
