Newness of Life

Title: Newness of Life
Text: Rom 6:1-14

[Rom 6:1]  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
[Rom 6:2]  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
[Rom 6:3]  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
[Rom 6:4]  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[Rom 6:5]  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
[Rom 6:6]  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[Rom 6:7]  For he that is dead is freed from sin.
[Rom 6:8]  Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
[Rom 6:9]  Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
[Rom 6:10]  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
[Rom 6:11]  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[Rom 6:12]  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
[Rom 6:13]  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
[Rom 6:14]  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Introduction

  • [2Co 5:17]  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
  • You have given your life to Jesus, what comes next?
  • You are now a new creature, old things have passed away, and all things have become new.  Praise God.
  • We must realize that sin can no longer be a part of us
  • Making heaven is dependent on staying away from sin
  • We must not be part of those that are nailing Jesus to the cross again by claiming to be Christians and yet find it comfortable to live in sin
  • Sin must be uncomfortable for you
  • You will make heaven in Jesus name

Main Topic

The Greatest Sin
  • The Romans Road
    • [Rom 3:23]  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    • [Rom 5:8]  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    • [Rom 6:23]  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • The greatest sin a man can commit is to refuse to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior
  • Whether the person is the nicest person in the world or a serial killer, the destination is the same, hell fire.
  • We are not saved by our behavior, we are saved by grace
    • [Eph 2:8]  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    • [Joh 14:6]  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
  • The niceness of a man cannot take man to the presence of God.
  • Everyone must go through the Son to get to the Father
  • The greatest sin a man can commit is to refuse to embrace the Son and believe he would make heaven.  It is impossible.

Dead to Sin
  • For those that have embraced the Son, glory be to God.  However, we cannot continue the way we were.
    • [Rom 6:1]  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [Rom 6:2]  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? [Rom 6:3]  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [Rom 6:4]  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [Rom 6:5]  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [Rom 6:6]  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [Rom 6:7]  For he that is dead is freed from sin.
  • I am dead to sin
  • We can no longer live in sin
  • We have been baptized into Christ, and that baptism was unto His death
  • We are buried with Jesus Christ by baptism into death
  • We are raised with Jesus Christ by His resurrection unto life
  • The old man (the sinful person in the flesh) is crucified with Jesus Christ, and the body of sin has been destroyed
  • Do not resurrect the old man.  He is dead and buried.
  • If the body of sin has been destroyed, we can no longer yield our members to sin – [Rom 6:13]  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
    • [1Jn 3:7]  Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
    • [1Jn 3:8]  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
    • [1Jn 3:9]  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
  • You can no longer wallow in sin.
    • You are born again and you still find it comfortable to deceive people by lying
    • You are born again and you still find it comfortable to gossip and backbite
    • You are born again and you still have unforgiveness in your heart
    • You are born again and stealing is your passion
    • You are born again and you are sleeping around without being married
    • You are born again and you watch pornography
    • You are born again and you find it enjoyable to get drunk on alcohol or high on drugs
  • You have one step into hell fire already

Newness of Life
  • [Rom 6:4]  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
  • [2Co 5:21]  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
  • We are to walk in newness of life and be the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
  • We cannot walk in newness of life by ourselves or by our power.  We will fail.
  • We need the Holy Spirit to walk in newness of life
    • [Joh 14:26]  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
  • It is the Holy Spirit that helps us to stay away from sin
  • If you are yet to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, let us know.  You can receive the baptism today.
  • If we happen to sin, it is the Holy Spirit that convicts us so we can run back to God
  • [Heb 10:26]  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
  • We can no longer willfully sin.
  • David wrote:
    • [Psa 51:10]  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
    • [Psa 51:11]  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
    • [Psa 51:12]  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
  • If you happen to fall into sin, run back to God, confess your sins, and ask Him for forgiveness.

Conclusion
  • We are dead to sin
  • We are to walk in newness of life
  • By the grace of God, we will make heaven
