Title: No Reason To Fear
Text: 2 Tim 1:7
[2Ti 1:7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Introduction
- There are two kinds of fear: the good kind of fear and the terrible kind of fear
- The good kind of fear is the fear of God, which is part of the 7 Spirits of God
- [Isa 11:2] The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
- The good kind of fear is what kept Joseph from sleeping with Potiphar’s wife
- It’s the kind that keeps us away from sin.
- The terrible kind of fear is not from God. It is from the spirit of fear or the spirit of bondage
- Both of these spirits are demonic strong men that must be dealt with
- [Rom 8:15] For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
-
Since you cannot kill a spirit, you must terminate their operations around you
-
We are discussing the terrible kind of fear
Main Topic
Effects of fear
Purpose of fear
How fear comes
- [Rom 10:17] So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
-
Unfortunately, fear also comes by hearing, not by the Word of God, but by other words
-
It can also be by seeing, by thoughts, by feelings.
-
Guard what you hear, what you see, what you read, to block fear from coming in.
-
Remember the 12 spies from Numbers 13:26-33?
-
They saw the giants in the land and fear crept in, and they concluded they could not possess the land
-
Joshua and Caleb saw the same thing and concluded, we are able to take the land
-
The 10 spies that brought the negative report perished in the wilderness along with that generation of Israelites.
-
Only Joshua and Caleb made it to the promised land
-
The purpose of heaven for them was to make it to the promised land,
-
Fear brought doubt, and doubt prevented them from trusting God, and they failed to fulfill their destiny.
-
Fear is an evil report
-
Fear is about things that have not happened
-
Therefore, fear is False Evidence Appearing Real
-
Fear is False, it is not True
Dealing with Fear
- Remember the promises of God
- [Isa 41:10] Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
-
God said,
- [Jos 1:9] Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
- [Psa 23:4] Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
-
I will fear no evil
-
For God is with me
If God is with you, you have no reason to fear – Isaiah 41:11-14
- [Isa 41:11] “Behold, all those who were incensed against you Shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, And those who strive with you shall perish.
-
[Isa 41:12] You shall seek them and not find them— Those who contended with you. Those who war against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing.
-
[Isa 41:13] For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
-
[Isa 41:14] “Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you,” says the LORD And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
-
Everything causing you fear will have to deal with God
-
All those incensed against you, causing you fear, shall be ashamed and disgraced
-
They shall be as nothing
-
All those who strive with you shall perish
-
You shall seek those who contended with you and not find them
-
Those who war against you shall be as nothing
-
Why? For the LORD your God will hold your right hand and say, Fear not, I will help you
-
This exactly what happened in 2 Kings 7:1-7
-
Samaria was besieged by the Syrians. They could not go in or out, and as a result, famine started
-
The famine was so severe that people were eating their own children
-
Prophet Elisha prophesied that in 24 hours there shall be plenty
-
Four lepers decided to go to the camp of the Syrians. They thought to themselves, if we die, we die.
-
Fear is meant to keep one in bondage – to not move
-
The moment you make a move, you break the yoke of the fear
-
If you do not make a move, God cannot help you.
-
You need to make a move
-
The four lepers moved, and as they were getting closer to the Syrian camp, God amplified the sound of the feet of the lepers. Never mind the fact that they probably had no toes.
-
God amplified the sound of their feed to sound like a battalion on horses were coming
-
Fear gripped the Syrians and they fled, leaving all their goods behind
-
God will cause your enemy to fear the moment you move.
-
The same happened in 1 Sam. 17 where Goliath tormented Israel for 40 days – 1 Sam. 17
-
Out of fear, Israel did not move
-
David came from the bush and said, who is this uncircumcised Philistine that defy the armies of God
-
David moved and Goliath was defeated
-
The Philistine took off running out of fear
-
Until you make a move, God can’t help you
How to get rid of fear
-
A Pastor friend’s brother had a fear of death
-
After counseling, I discovered that he was not born again
-
He gave his life to Jesus
-
Through prayers, he was delivered from the spirit of fear
-
An IT Consultant who had a phobia for flying
-
Step 1: You must be born again. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
-
Step 2: Pray against the spirit of fear and the effect of fear
-
Step 3: Make a move against what is causing you fear
Conclusion
- [2Ti 1:7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
- God has not given me the spirit of fear
- God has given me power, love, and a sound mind
- Therefore, anything contrary to what God gave you must be terminated
