Title: The God-Man: Jesus
Text: John 1:1-14

[Joh 1:1]  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[Joh 1:2]  He was in the beginning with God.
[Joh 1:3]  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
[Joh 1:4]  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
[Joh 1:5]  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
[Joh 1:6]  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
[Joh 1:7]  This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
[Joh 1:8]  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
[Joh 1:9]  That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
[Joh 1:10]  He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
[Joh 1:11]  He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
[Joh 1:12]  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
[Joh 1:13]  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
[Joh 1:14]  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Introduction
  • Quite a lot of people could not understand how Jesus could be God and man at the same time.
  • It seems weird that the King of the universe will lay down His crown and become a servant
  • What we fail to understand is that nothing else could have delivered man from their sins.
  • God had to become a man, so that man can be delivered from his sin
  • We will be reviewing some key facts from John 1 to drive it home that Jesus is in fact God.

Main Topic
1. Jesus is the Creative Word – John 1:1,14
  • [Joh 1:1]  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  • [Joh 1:14]  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
  • Jesus was the Word that was in the beginning – Gen 1:1-3
    • [Gen 1:1]  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [Gen 1:2]  The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. [Gen 1:3]  Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
  • When God the Father spoke, He was speaking Jesus
  • God the Father created the heavens and the earth
  • God the Holy Spirit was moving over the waters
  • God the Son, the Word, Jesus Christ, was spoke, the earth began to change – Col. 1:7, 2:9, Eph. 2:10, Eph. 1:3-6
    • [Col 1:17]  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
    • [Col 2:9]  For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
    • [Eph 2:10]  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
    • [Eph 1:3]  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlyplaces in Christ, [Eph 1:4]  just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, [Eph 1:5]  having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, [Eph 1:6]  to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

2. Jesus is the Creator of all things – John 1:3,10
  • [Joh 1:3]  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
  • [Joh 1:10]  He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
  • Since Jesus was the Word that out of the mouth of God the Father to create all things
  • Without Jesus, nothing was made that was made
  • In other words, everything that was made, was made through Jesus Christ
    • [Gen 1:26]  Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
  • God the Father and God the Holy Spirit are both spirit beings – John 4:24
  • God the Son is the only Person of the Trinity that the God-head foreknew will become flesh. So we were created in the flesh just like Him
  • Therefore, man was made in the image and likeness of Jesus Christ
  • Instead of saying God became man, it is more that man was created in the image and likeness of God

3. Jesus is the Ageless Man – John 1:1
  • [Joh 1:1]  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  • How old is Jesus?
  • He is not 33 years old. He walked upon the earth as a man for 33 years.
  • He was there in the beginning
  • That was why He said, [Joh 8:58]  Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
  • He had no beginning, and He has no end
  • We tend to put Jesus in a separate class from God because He was born of a woman
  • We forget that He was the One who created all things
  • He was there when Satan fell – [Luk 10:18]  And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
  • He was the fourth man in the fire with the 3 Hebrew boys –  [Dan 3:25]  “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”
  • He showed up to Abraham before He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah –  [Gen 18:1]  Then the LORD appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.
  • Abraham’s intercession was to Jesus –  [Gen 18:22]  Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD.
  • No man can see God the Father and live, but we can see God the Son and rejoice.
  • So, Jesus is the Ageless Man

4. Jesus is the Light – John 1:4-5,9
  • [Joh 1:4]  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
  • [Joh 1:5]  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
  • [Joh 1:9]  That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
  • In the 3 realms of man (Spirit, Soul, and Body), Jesus is the Light
  • In the physical realm, Jesus was the light that lighted up the earth when God spoke
    • [Gen 1:3]  Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
    • He was the light before the sun and the moon were created
  • In the spiritual realm, Jesus is the Light that keeps darkness away from you – John 1:5, Col 1:12-14
    • [Joh 1:5]  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
    • [Col 1:12]  giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. [Col 1:13]  He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, [Col 1:14]  in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
  • In the realm of our minds, Jesus is the light (the Word) that illuminates our minds – Ps. 119:105, Rom 12:2
    • [Psa 119:105]  Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
    • [Rom 12:2]  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

5. Jesus is the owner of life – John 1:4
  • [Joh 1:4]  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
  • The very life that you have was created in Jesus
  • The very life of every man that walks upon the face of the earth were created in Jesus Christ
  • However, lives has been taken hostage by the king of this world, the devil himself
  • Until that life willingly come to Jesus, that life is still under the bondage of the devil
  • [Joh 11:25]  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
  • Jesus is the giver of life in the physical realm
  • Jesus is the giver of life in the eternal Kingdom of God

6. Jesus is the giver of power – John 1:12-13, Gal. 3:26, Eph. 1:5, Act 1:8, Luke 10:19, Matt. 28:18-20
  • [Joh 1:12]  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right [power, authority] to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: [Joh 1:13]  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
  • [Gal 3:26]  For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
  • [Eph 1:5]  having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
  • [Act 1:8]  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
  • [Luk 10:19]  Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
  • [Mat 28:18]  And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
  • [Mat 28:19]  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  • [Mat 28:20]  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
