Title: The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – III
Text: Ex. 3:6
[Exo 3:6] Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Introduction
- The name that you call a person usually denotes the ability or skill of the person.
- For example, when you have a toothache, you call on a dentist
- When your computer is acting funny, you call on a computer technician
- When you have car issues, you call on a mechanic
- When God calls Himself the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, we need to analyze what He meant by that.
- What is God saying about His abilities?
Main Topic
The God of Abraham
1. He is the God of purpose – Gen. 12:1-3
2. He is the God of Faith – Heb 11:8-9, Gen 15:6
3. He is the God of Promise – Gen 12:1-3
4. He is the God of Revelations – Gen. 18:17-18
5. He is the God of Intercession – Gen 18:23-33
6. He is the Mighty Man in Battle – Gen. 14:1-2
7. The God of Worship – Gen. 12:8, 13:4, 13:18
8. The God of Perfection – Gen 17:1
9. The Destiny Changer – Gen. 17:5, 15
10. The God of Covenants – Ex. 2:24
- [Exo 2:24] And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
- The Lord made a covenant with Abraham, the covenant continued with Isaac, and then Jacob, and then the children of Israel, and then with us.
- God does not break His covenant Num 23:19, Tit. 1:2, Heb 6:18
- [Num 23:19] God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
- [Tit 1:2] In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
- [Heb 6:18] That by two immutable things, in which it wasimpossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
- We have a new and better covenant
- [Heb 12:24] And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
- Every covenant God has made concerning you shall surely come to pass in the name of Jesus Christ
11. The God our Provider – Jehovah Jireh – Gen. 22:1-14
- The Lord asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son that he loved, he obeyed
- While they were going, the son asked, I see the fire, the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
- Abraham replied, the Lord Himself will provide a lamb for a burnt offering
- Not only were they speaking of the burnt offering Abraham was going to do, they were also speaking of the burnt offering for the world
- Both statements were prophetic. They both talked about the Lamb, that is Jesus Christ.
- Isaac prophesied for a lamb – why did he not ask for a different animal for burnt sacrifice?
- Abraham’s reply that God Himself will provide Himself a lamb – this is symbolic of the ultimate sacrifice that God made, by providing Hiimself a Lamb that died for our sins – Jesus Christ
- The Lord did provide a lamb to Abraham and Isaac
- The Lord Himself did provide a Lamb to the rest of us
- [Php 4:19] But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
- The Lord who has been providing for you shall continue to provide all your needs in Jesus name.
12. The God of continuous greatness
- Abraham was great – [Gen 24:35] And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
- Isaac was very great – [Gen 26:12] Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. [Gen 26:13] And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: [Gen 26:14] For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
- Jacob was exceedingly great – [Gen 30:43] And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
- If Isaac can be greater than Abraham, and Jacob can be greater than Isaac, you must be greater than your parents, and your children must be greater than you.
- What you did not finish, your children will complete in the name of Jesus Christ
- Where you are weak, your children shall be strong in the name of Jesus Christ
- What you did not achieve, your children will achieve them in the name of Jesus Christ
- The grace you have will be multiplied upon your children in the name of Jesus Christ
- The grace you did not have, God will give it to your children in the name of Jesus Christ
- Where you suffered, your children will prosper in the name of Jesus Christ
- Where you fell, your children will stand in the name of Jesus Christ
- Where you failed, your children will enjoy success in the name of Jesus Christ
- Because you serve a God of continuous greatness.
13. The God of Transformation – Gen 32:24-28
- [Gen 32:24] And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. [Gen 32:25] And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. [Gen 32:26] And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. [Gen 32:27] And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. [Gen 32:28] And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
- Reviewing the life of Jacob, we will see a trend of deception
- He took the birthright of Esau, conned his uncle and became rich, deceived the father into blessing him. I’m sure there are more
- Yet, God said, I am the God of Abraham, the God Isaac, and the God of Jacob
- Why did God not say, I am the God of Israel
- God met Jacob and changed his name from Jacob to Israel – transforming his life from that of deception to that of righteousness
- In Acts 9:1-9, Saul, a persecutor of Christians, met with Jesus and he was transformed to the greatest evangelist that ever lived
- You and I were also transformed from darkness and destruction into His marvelous light.
- The Lord shall continue to transform our lives for good in Jesus name.
14. The God of Expected End – Jer. 29:11
- [Jer 29:11] For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
- Abraham died at the age of 175 – full of years and fulfilled his destiny – Gen. 25:7-8
- [Gen 25:7] And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. [Gen 25:8] Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
- Isaac died at the age of 180 – full of days and fulfilled his destiny – Gen. 35:28-29
- [Gen 35:28] And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years. [Gen 35:29] And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
- Jacob died at the age of 147 – he also fulfilled his destiny – Gen. 47:28, 49:33
- [Gen 47:28] And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.
- [Gen 49:33] And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.
- It does not matter how life started for you, you shall finish well in Jesus name
- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob did not die young – you shall fulfill the number of days and years in Jesus name.
- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob fulfilled their God given assignments, you shall fulfill your destiny in Jesus name.
