Title: The Godly Mothers

Text: Ex. 2:1-4

Exo 2:1 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi.

Exo 2:2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months.

Exo 2:3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

Exo 2:4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

Moses’ mother took a risk by doing what she did
However, she did it to protect Moses
This chapter is full of seeming coincidences. For example, why did Pharaoh’s daughter happened to be bathing right where the ark was floating? Why did the baby happened to cry and thus draw out her compassion? Why was Moses’ mother accepted by Pharaoh’s daughter as his nurse?
These may seem like coincidences, but I believe that these are God’s ways of answering a mother’s prayer
The devil was foiled by his own weapon, inasmuch as Pharaoh, whom he was using to frustrate the purpose of God, is used of God to nourish and bring up Moses, who was to be His instrument in confounding the power of Satan.
God used the prayer of the mother of Moses and the children of Israel to confound the enemy
1Co 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
I pray for all the mothers that are here, your prayers will be used to put the enemy to shame in Jesus name.

Characteristics of Godly Mothers

- The story of the woman who was trying to protect her children, went to a prophet, and became a witch unwillingly. In the quest to protect her family, she became her families’ nightmare. Thank God she was delivered.
- Godly mothers know that protection of their families is only in the hand of God.
- 2Ki 4:1 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” 2Ki 4:2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
- Godly mothers are:

Loving
Caring
Selfless

To all our mothers, I say thank you for your love, care, and selfless sacrifices you make everyday because of your husband and your children.

Duties of Godly Mothers

- Pray for their children – their prayers shape the destiny of their children

Moses’ mother must have been praying.
The prayer of Hannah concerning Samuel –

[1Sa 1:11] And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

- They bring their children close to God

It was my mother that took us to church at all times – even if when I did not know Jesus, I knew there is a God
That knowledge stuck with me into adulthood until Jesus found me

- They train their children in a godly manner

Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

- They discipline their children

Pro 23:13 Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. Pro 23:14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.

- They are role models to their children

The female child wants to be like her mother
The male child wants to marry a woman like his mother

- They also perform duties of

The housekeeper
The physician
The nurse
The psychologist
The confidant
The health inspector
The dentist
The cook
The wash woman
The fashion police
The night watcher
And they do not take vacation

Blessings of Godly Mothers

Her prayers are answered
She is trusted by her family, because they know her motives are in their best interest.
She will live to fulfill her days and see her children’s children
She will eat the fruit of her labor
She will not labor in vain
Even if the beginning of her days were rough, her latter end shall be great

To all our mothers – even if we don’t show our appreciation for all you do at all times, please know today that we appreciate and cherish you.
