Title: The Life
Text: John 14:6
[Joh 14:6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Introduction
What is life?
- Dictionary defines life as the period between birth and death.
- With such definition, life is a time period.
- However, there are two kinds of life: Life before death and life after death.
- Life before death is temporal life, which is both physical and spiritual
- Life after death is eternal life
- [Gen 2:7] And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
- God gave man the breath of life, to live as humans
- Through the breath of God, man has physical life and spiritual life
Main Topic
Physical Life and Spiritual Life
- From the time a person is conceived to the time the person dies is the physical life
- Physical life can last up to 969 years [Gen 5:27] And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
- Nowadays maybe 120 years.
- Spiritual life here on earth will last for how long the physical life was for.
- Spiritual life becomes eternal life when physical life is over
- Eternal life is the period of time after death. Eternal life has no end. There is no death after physical death
- Where one spends eternal life depends on what the person does with their spiritual life, during their physical life
- If the spirit of the person is reborn, such person will spend eternal life with God
- If the spirit of the person is not reborn, such person will spend eternal life in hell
Jesus is Life
- [Joh 14:6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life
- When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He becomes your life
- The sole purpose of man on earth is to prepare man for eternity with God
- That is only possible through Jesus.
- The period of time you spend here on earth preparing to meet God can only be meaningful if spent in Christ
- God breathed life into Adam to live forever and warned him
- [Gen 2:17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
- Adam committed treason and introduced death into the lineage of man
- The fact that God wanted us to live forever has not changed. It is still a fact.
- However, that can only happen through Christ
Jesus is Temporal Life and Eternal Life
- At the death of Lazarus, Jesus told Martha
- [Joh 11:25] Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [Joh 11:26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
- John 11:25 – Since there is no death after death, Jesus is saying, after temporal life, you shall live forever if you believe in Him
- John 11:26 – If one is alive and believe in Jesus, you shall never die – spiritual death that leads to eternal hell
- One shall live forever, which is spiritual life that leads to eternal life with God
- [Joh 1:4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
- In Christ is life
- Anyone not in Christ does not have life
- Anyone without life is both blind and ignorant spiritually – Rev. Felix Meduoye thought us that during the week
- John 6:48,51,53,54,63
- [Joh 6:48] I am that bread of life.
- [Joh 6:51] I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
- [Joh 6:53] Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
- [Joh 6:54] Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
- [Joh 6:63] It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
- Apostle Paul
- [Gal 2:20] I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
- My life is not my own, it belongs to Christ, the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in Christ
- That ought to be the practice of every believer.
The Opposite of Life is Death
- Death is both physical and spiritual
- Physical death is when the body expires
- Spiritual death is what was described in [Gen 2:17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Conclusion
- Life here on earth is both physical and spiritual
- Life here on earth is temporal
- The spiritual life of man will lead him to eternal life with God, provided the man’s spirit is reborn
- The spirit of man is reborn by accepting Jesus Christ – John 3
- Life on earth is like a moment compared to eternal life
- Jesus is life
- Where we spend eternal life depends on the decision we make in this moment called life
- [Joh 14:6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- If you want to spend eternity with God, you must go through Jesus by giving your life to Him
