Title: The Light of God

Text: Gen. 1:1-5, John 1:1-5

[Gen 1:1] In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

[Gen 1:2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

[Gen 1:3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

[Gen 1:4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

[Gen 1:5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

[Joh 1:1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

[Joh 1:2] The same was in the beginning with God.

[Joh 1:3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

[Joh 1:4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

[Joh 1:5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Introduction

Gen. 1:1-5

God created the heaven and the earth. Somehow, darkness found it’s way upon the earth, but it was not so in the very beginning.
The first thing to be restored is light.
This light was not the sun, the moon, nor the stars.
It was the glory of God, which we see again in Rev. 21:23
[Rev 21:23] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
The Lamb is the light of the glory of God, so the Lamb is the light that lighted the earth in the beginning
The sun, moon, and stars were not created until the 4th day.

John 1:1-5

v4 – In Christ was life, and the life was the light of men
It is the life that Jesus gives that brings light into the life of man
So, without Jesus, man does not have light and shall remain in utter darkness

Jesus, the Light of the glory, the Light of men

[Isa 60:1] Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

[Isa 60:2] For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

[Isa 60:3] And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Arise, shine, for your light has come
Through your light, the glory of the LORD is risen upon you
Regardless of the darkness that covers the earth, and the gross darkness that covers the people, the LORD shall arise upon you, and His glory shall be seen in you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Others will come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising in the name of Jesus Christ
In short, Your light has come and He is Jesus. The glory of the LORD is upon you, and He is Jesus. His glory shall be seen upon you, and He is Jesus. Gentiles will come to your light, and He is Jesus. Kings to the brightness of your rising, how? He is Jesus.
Jesus is your light
Jesus is the light of the glory of the LORD
Jesus shall arise upon you
Jesus shall be seen upon you
[Joh 12:46] I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
[Act 26:18] To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
[2Co 4:6] For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Woman with the issue of blood – Matt. 5:25-34

Before she met Jesus, darkness reigned upon her life for 12 years
After she touched the hem of His garment, the light shined upon her and the darkness could not comprehend the light
From that day, anywhere she went, she will display light of the glory of the LORD

The man by the pool of Bethesda – John 5:1-15

Before he met Jesus, darkness reigned upon his life for 38 years
After meeting with Jesus, the light shined upon his life, and the impotence of 38 years disappeared with the darkness
From that day, he will display the light of the glory of the LORD

The mad man of Gadarene – Mark 5:1-20

Before he met Jesus, gross darkness reigned upon him
After meeting Jesus, the light shined upon his life, and the gross darkness disappeared
From that day, he displayed the light of the glory of the LORD by preaching in 10 cities

The man born blind – John 9:1-41

Before Jesus, this man was in darkness physically and spiritually
After meeting Jesus, the light shined upon his life, the physical and spiritual darkness disappeared
[Joh 9:25] He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
We were once blind too, but after coming to Jesus, we can now see

Key Points:

Jesus brings the light to every situation He is invited to.
Destinies are fulfilled when the Light shines in the darkness of our lives
Lives change for the better the moment the Light shines in our lives
Darkness can no longer reign once the Light shines

You are the light of the world – Matt. 5:14-16

[Mat 5:14] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

[Mat 5:15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

[Mat 5:16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

[1Jn 2:9] He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

[Eph 5:8] For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

[1Pe 2:9] But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Jesus is the light of the glory of the LORD
Jesus is the light of men
Men, who have the light of Christ, are the light of the world
So, you are to give light to the world
How? v16 – through your good works
- Be determined to leave every situation, place, life, better than you found it. However small the impact you can make, make the impact.
- Anywhere Jesus went, by the time He left, the place is much better than when He arrived
- Our testimony should be the same.
- However, the light of the world can only shine if the Holy Spirit is present
- So that the fruit of the Spirit can be seen.
  - [Gal 5:22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [Gal 5:23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
- Without the Holy Spirit, flesh will shines, the result is sin.
  - [Gal 5:19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [Gal 5:20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [Gal 5:21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Conclusion

Jesus is the light of the glory of God
Jesus is the light of men
Men, who have the light of Christ, are the light of the world
So, let the light of God shine through you to the world by your works
