Title: The Name of Jesus

Text: Matt. 1:21-23, Phil. 2:6-11

[Mat 1:21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

[Mat 1:22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

[Mat 1:23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

[Php 2:6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

[Php 2:7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

[Php 2:8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

[Php 2:9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

[Php 2:10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

[Php 2:11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Introduction

The destiny of a man can be embedded in the man’s name
- The destiny of Jesus was embedded in His name

  - [1Ch 4:9] And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
  - [1Ch 4:10] And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

The name of a person could determine the mission of that person
- The mission of Jesus was in His name
- [Mat 1:21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
- No matter what you have been called, today, God will change your name in Jesus name

Prayers are answered in His Name

[Joh 14:13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
[Joh 14:14] If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Authority and Power in His Name

[Mat 28:18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[Mat 28:19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[Mat 28:20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Healing is in His Name

[Act 10:38] How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
[Act 3:6] Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
[Act 3:7] And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
[Mat 9:35] And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Deliverance is in His Name

[Luk 10:17] And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
[Pro 18:10] The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
You must believe (faith) in the name to be delivered by the name
- [Act 19:13] Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
- [Act 19:14] And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
- [Act 19:15] And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
- [Act 19:16] And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Peace in His Name

[Isa 9:6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
[Isa 9:7] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
[Php 4:6] Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
[Php 4:7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Conclusion

The name of Jesus is the name that is above all names.

It is in the name of Jesus that we are
