Title: The Presence of the Lord
Text: Ps. 16:11
[Psa 16:11]  Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Introduction

  • The presence of the Lord makes all the difference in the life of a believer.
  • Unfortunately, many believers do not know what the presence of the Lord is.
  • There are times in the church that the presence of the Lord will be so strong, and yet some people will be walking casually around.
  • There is no way a believer will recognize the presence of the Lord and not feel the awe that comes with it.
  • It must be that some of us are not spiritually in tune to recognize His presence.
  • I pray that this teaching will shed light on His presence and help us to be conscious of His presence.

Main Topic

What happens in His presence? There is fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore.
  • In His presence, there is healing –
    • The man with palsy – Mark 2:1-12
    • Bartimeus was healed in His presence – Mark 10:46-52

  • In His presence, there is deliverance
    • The evangelist of Decapolis – Mark 5:1-20

  • In His presence, there is protection
    •  Ps. 91:1-4
    • [Psa 91:1]  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. [Psa 91:2]  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. [Psa 91:3]  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. [Psa 91:4]  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

  • In His presence, sorrow turns to joy
    • Widow who lost her son – Luke 7:11-17

  • In His presence, you hear the inaudible, the plans of the enemy are revealed
    • 2 Kings 6:8-12
    • [2Ki 6:8]  Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. [2Ki 6:9]  And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down. [2Ki 6:10]  And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice. [2Ki 6:11]  Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? [2Ki 6:12]  And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

  • In His presence, you see the invisible
    • 2 Kings 6:15-17
    • [2Ki 6:15]  And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? [2Ki 6:16]  And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. [2Ki 6:17]  And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

How to get to His presence
The presence of the Lord can be likened to the design of the old testament tabernacle and the three realms of prayer.
[Mat 7:7]  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
[Mat 7:8]  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
  • Outer court – Asking realm – for everyone
    • [Exo 27:9]  And thou shalt make the court of the tabernacle: for the south side southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen of an hundred cubits long for one side:
    • The outer court is where all the sacrifices are being made
    • This is the realm where we ask for forgiveness of sins
    • Many of us get here and stop.
  • The Holy Place – seeking realm – for he that seeketh
    • [Exo 26:33]  And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.
    • This is the realm of true worship – [Joh 4:24]  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
    • Many of us get here and stop.
  • Holy of Holies – the bedroom of the Lord – knocking realm – for him that knocketh
    • The ark of the covenant is located in the Holy of Holies
    • The priest can only enter the Holy of Holies once a year on the day of atonement
    • If the priest is not clean, they will have to drag his dead body out
    • One can only enter by invitation
    • [Mat 27:51]  And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
    • In this realm, there is no asking, there is no seeking. You hear the will of God
    • It is impossible to enter the presence of the Lord being dirty
    • Don’t stop until you are invited into the Holy of Holies.

Conclusion
[Psa 16:11]  Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
