Title: The Transformed Life
Text: Rom 12:1-2
[Rom 12:1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
[Rom 12:2] And do not be conformed to this world, but betransformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Introduction
- Transformation is defined as a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance.
- Whatever that is transformed will no longer be or look like the way it was
- Water can transform into ice when the environment is conducive for ice
- Water can also transform into gas, provided the environment is appropriate
- Life can equally be transformed for good such that it will no longer be what it was
- However, the environment must be conducive to the transformation
- The new year is coming in less than 30 days. If you don’t like what happened in 2018, you have the authority to change it for 2019.
- Transformation is needed when deep inside of you, you are not satisfied with who you are.
- Transformation is needed when you are not where you are supposed to be
- Transformation is needed when you are not seeing the result you expected
- Transformation is needed when you are not fulfilling the will of God for your life
Main Topic
How can a person transform their life from who they are to who God created them to be?
There are at least 4 stages of transformation
1. The foundation for transformation must be appropriate (2 Cor. 5:17, Rom 10:9-10, 1 Cor. 3:11)
-
[2Co 5:17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
-
[Rom 10:9] that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
-
[Rom 10:10] For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
-
[1Co 3:11] For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
-
The foundation must be addressed first.
-
You cannot build a healthy life on a faulty foundation
-
A healthy life requires SSB (Salvation, Sanctification, and Baptism of the Holy Spirit)
-
Life of Paul the Apostle
-
He met Jesus on the way to Damascus
-
[Act 9:3] As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven.
-
[Act 9:4] Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
-
[Act 9:5] And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”
-
[Act 9:17] And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
2. There must be a realization of the need to be transformed
-
This realization will drive the determination that will create the hunger and the zeal required for the transformation to take place.
-
As soon as Saul received Christ, he knew the transformation has started
-
[Act 9:20] Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.
3. Your environment must be suitable for the transformation
4. Acquire the knowledge needed to be who you want to be
- You may need to seek counsel from those that have gone through the transformation
- You may need to read books about it
- You may need to go to school
- Life of Paul the Apostle
- Paul spent a year with Barnabas in Antioch, he was being taught to become a disciple.
5. Take the step of faith towards the life God created you to be
- Apostle Paul went everywhere preaching the Gospel
- He wrote half of the books in the New Testament
- He declared in [Gal 2:20] I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
-
[Act 19:11] Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul,
-
[Act 19:12] so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.
- Saul transformed into Apostle Paul and the world was never the same, not just for him, but for the people around him.
Conclusion
The five stages of the transformation are:
1. The foundation for transformation must be appropriate
2. There must be a realization of the need to be transformed
3. Your environment must be suitable for the transformation
4. Acquire the knowledge needed to be who you want to be
5. Take the step of faith towards the life God created you to be
